Canada: 2a.Pre-Bilateral- Climate change is our shared problem

Sep 28, 2017 by Badr

One of the most relevants action/targets of the SDG#13 was to increase resilience and adaptiveness against climate related disasters in all countries. Another action point was to raise 100 billion dollars annually by 2020 by developed countries to give to developing countries that would go towards their climate related needs. The SDG#13 also talked about how countries needed to create policies, strategies and planning that surrounds climate change issues.

In the SDG#13 they do not clearly respond to issues surrounding the scarcity and pollution of water. Although they mention in an action point to “strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries” I believe water issues that are affected by climate change must have its own point due to its importance.

Some of the areas that the SDG#13 have failed to recognize is the safety and protection of marine organisms and other wildlife animals. Although one of their target points was to help Indigenous communities, islands and less developed countries, they have failed to focus on preserving their culture. They focused on what they thought would help them (ex. Technology and other modern means) instead of what they actually wanted to be helped with.

If I had the power to add some target points into the SDG#13 it would be to focus on preserving all cultures and to aid other less developed countries with what they need to be aided with. I would also focus on the safety of marine life, for it is vital in keeping a healthy ecosystem in water, and other wildlife creatures.

Hello Badr,

When you said they should focus more on marine animals, have you looked at SDG 14 on Life Below Water and the ocean Conference? (https://oceanconference.un.org/)

Also, have you considered the fact that many indigenous peoples don't have access to clean water? http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/manitoba/bad-wa...

Great job nevertheless :)
