2a: Climate change is our shared problem. (JANA)

What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13

"strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries".

"Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning"

."Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible."

How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities?

These  responses  to the objectives of SDG 13 are reflected in a number of binding treaties, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, together with its Doha Amendment, and the Paris Agreement.Other things have also been done for example seven developing countries successfully completed and submitted the first iteration of their national adaptation plans, in response to climate change. As well as many countries have begun implementing national and local disaster risk reduction strategies.Initial efforts to mobilize resources for the Green Climate Fund also  raised $10.3 billion.

What other areas do you think should be taken into account

I worry that a lot of money is being raised, for example the global fund raised up to $10.3 billion yet not ,much has been done globally to combat climate change. On the contrary things are getting worse as days go by.I also feel like as much s climate change is part of the sustainable development goals its not taken very seriously by everyone It seems like its just an issue mentioned, but no one feels like its a big problem especially people who aren't well educated, as well as others who do not experience and see the impacts climate change have on the world. I feel like informing and educating people on this issue is very important so that many are willing to not only contribute but also participate in many things than can combat climate change and deal with water. The seriousness of this issue needs to be brought out so that the goals that have been set are focused on and achieved in the near future.

What elements would you incorporate if you had to build and action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people. Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element.

I feel like communication is key. Its important for us to communicate with different people all around the world and share our thoughts and ideas. Many people don't bother asking the indigenous people about their opinions and what should be done in order to deal with water, yet they might have valuable information due to their experience living in nature and etc. While people who are more powerful than others get to make decisions without including and listening to different opinions. Informing one another about the issues dealing with water that are being neglected is very important. For example the submarine life isn't talked about in the sustainable development goals yet we rely on these things on a daily basis. They are so many issues for example  ocean acidification, sea level rise, fresh water availability and melting artic sea's that are costing people a lot. Water is an important part of our lives, we need to work as a team to deal with these problems, but that won't happen if they are people out there who don't understand what is going and and what needs to be done. If i could i would suggest hosting many forums which discuss and educate people about the various issues because if this is not done no one will bother contributing and helping. No one will put their everything if they don't see the importance of it in the first place,

Hi Jana,

Great post here. You engage quite critically with the task. The only thing I would add is to zoom in. Your proposals are all focused on the global scale - but what about the local scale? What do the developing countries do, what role do they play?
