- What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13
I believe that the most relevant action proposed in SDG#13 was that developed countries are all together funding $100 billion per year to further help the reduction of global warming.
- How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities?
All of the targets in SDG#13 have a positive impact in improving the state of our current world. Funding helps reduce global warming and helping climate change in water. With a cooler climate, less water melts and less is used for agriculture. With more water, Indigenous communities can thrive better because they have more available and convenient resources. Non-indigenous communities also benefit because with a colder climate, there are more successful crops. This keeps the amount of water and labor used small and keeps the food prices down.
- What other areas do you think should be taken into account
Global warming’s effect on wildlife needs to be taken into account. For example, single use plastics are very harmful to the environment. They aren’t biodegradable and can be extremely threatening to animals. Furthermore, animals may find it tough to survive in these warmer temperatures. Not all species can adapt to the heat and will eventually die.
Not only do leaders need to be involved but everyday citizens need to be knowledgeable. Regular people need to know how they can reduce their carbon footprints in order to help these issues around global warming.
- What elements would you incorporate if you had to build and action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people. Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element.
I would incorporate communication through average people. People need to make their own choices on how they want to help. People can tell them what to do but in the end they are the ones doing the actions. Individuals need to have the self drive to make a difference. Many people aren’t aware of the underlying issues and they need a way to learn. Once people are on board, they can make a change. Everyone needs to be aware, not just our country leaders. Lots of people helping to make a difference affects us all, whether you’re indigenous or not.
