2b. Pre-Bilateral - Indigenous responses to climate change

Oct 16, 2017 by Enrico Louis Alba
  • How is this representation of climate change similar to the other things you’ve read/viewed? How is different?
  • Where do you see the influence of Indigenous peoples in this video? Where is it missing?
  • What solutions to climate change does this video propose?
  • Do you agree with the representation of Indigenous peoples and climate change action in the video? Why or why not?
  • What are the opportunities and challenges in taking seriously Indigenous perspectives of climate change? Consider factors that facilitate or hinder ethical responses to climate change, including social and economic inequities, political dynamics, marginalization, discrimination, state, military/police power, etc.

1. I Think what I had learn from what I have read and watch are the same, we view climate changes as a problem, that has to be solved. The only difference, is for me the video is something very useful because it is very detailed and it help me to understand what is climate change all about, it helped me to understand more how does it begin, especially to understand more deeper what is carbon dioxide, and the connection between non indigenous people and indigenous people to the each other and the earth.

2. I can see the influence of the indigenous community as to taking care of the environment especifically in taking care of it in planting trees and telling as to have a different kind of view the way we treat the environment for them, and how it should be, it should be treated as a friend.

Their community is also the one who is like a guard in the forest because they are the ones who knew it because they are near. Because of climate change agreements are being made, that the indigenous people should partake or join in this discussion according to the video part of the agreement is to stop cutting trees and if there is any plan, it should have the consent of them. When it comes to what do they lack is the platform where they can speak their voice, and they need someone who is going to listen to them in solving this problem, I believe that in order for this agreements to be successful, is that we must have the strong decisiveness to really solve this.

3. The video proposes to have an agreements to lessen factorie and other industries that emits carbon dioxide and to stop planting trees, to involve indigenous people that involves with the environment, that they should have the connection between the government, especially in giving their rights.

4. I totally agree because the video summarize it all, it help to understand deeper what is climate change. It is right that we should have that kind of agreements not to protect the earth but to protect ourselves as well, we are the earth we should find solutions and take action of it.

It is right that this thing should involve everybody because all will be affected. it is right to give the right, right to the indigenous people, because all things should be equal. The only problem that I see while watching the video with all this beautiful plans, is that how we are going to be able to unite all countries and execute it properly and to make sure that nobody is breaking the rules and being assaulted.

5. I think the kind of perspective that they have is really great for the environment, but we all also have to consider that there are many things that will be affected socially and economically because of the production of things, especially in the urban areas will be affected. For example we will stop cutting of trees, where and how will be able to produce a paper for school and office works. And when it comes to production of service, I am sure that the production will be shorten, and when it comes to businesses, how we are going to tell do those entrepreneurs, that they have to reduce their property. What will be their gain in return? and how will the government communicate properly to the indigenous. There are many question that has to be answered but all in all the perspective is really good. It now comes to the authorities on how much they want to resolve this problem.
