United States: 2b. Pre-Bilateral - Indigenous Responses to Climate Change

Environment   Oct 3, 2017 by stellajames

How is this representation of climate change similar to the other things you’ve read/viewed? How is different?

This representation is similar to other things that I have read/viewed because it tells causes and effects of climate change and ways to help stop climate change, it also talked a lot about carbon, and carbon dioxide, and how climate change effects the indigenous people, and how trees help stop climate change. This video talked a lot about REDD+, which is not what most of the articles/videos talk about. One thing that is different is that the video focused on the view of climate change from Indigenous people.

Where do you see the influence of Indigenous peoples in this video? Where is it missing?

I can see the influence of Indigenous people because it is from the perspectives of the indigenous people, and it talked a lot about REDD+, and how it will help indigenous people. It really focuses on how REDD+ makes sure their voices get heard before making a decision, and how REDD+ gives the indigenous people more power, which would make the companies listen to them.

What solutions to climate change does this video propose?

The video proposes to stop cutting down trees. This will reduce the carbon emissions because trees take in a lot of carbon dioxide, and the more we cut down the less carbon dioxide is consumed. One other proposal is to make agreements with industrialized countries to help stop their use of ingeniosus resources.

Do you agree with the representation of Indigenous peoples and climate change action in the video? Why or why not?

Yes I agree with the representation of indigenous people and climate change action in the video. The video is from the perspectives of a group of Indigenous people. They talk about the causes and effects of climate change, how we can help stop it, and how indigenous people are connected to climate change.

What are the opportunities and challenges in taking seriously Indigenous perspectives of climate change? Consider factors that facilitate or hinder ethical responses to climate change, including social and economic inequities, political dynamics, marginalization, discrimination, state, military/police power, etc.

Indigenous people could bring many opportunities such as they could help us really reduce climate change. But, this would cost a lot. For example, one of their ideas is to stop deforestation, but this would be very expensive, as well because people wouldn't be very open to this change, which would use up more money
