Costa Rica: Pre-Bilateral - Climate Change is Our Shared Problem

Environment   Oct 2, 2017 by Marisol Sanchez

A) What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG #13

  • Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.
  • Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

B) How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effect of climate change in water in both indigenous and non-indigenous communities?

  • Some places don't have clean water because of the effects of climate change. Water is something we all need, there are countries were people have to walk for miles just to find some water and many times, that water may cause them diseases, it may not be potable or they may not even find water at all after walking for miles. Climate change has caused floods, droughts, landslides, rivers overflowing and all these compromises us, our health and our resources.

C) What other areas do you think should be taken into account?

  • I believe it is important to think about our oceans and rivers. Contaminations is affecting highly our rivers and oceans which not only affects us, but affects the animals that live in them. Water is a necessary resource, therefore, we need to take care of it and we must not waste it and we must stop its contamination. WE are the ones to blame and WE are the ones who have to find a solution and it must be soon. We are compromising our health, animals, we are compromising our HOME, its not just contaminated water, we have to look at the bigger picture.

D) What elements would you incorporate if you had to build an action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people. Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element.
