Indonesia. Colonial Context

Environment   Sep 29, 2017 by Aldi Widodo
  • How does your footprint reflect the economy of your country, including its colonial relations?

In general, the ecological footprint of a person is a reflection of their style of living. my school have a program "School without carbon footprint" everybody does not use a car or motorcycle when go to school. it's supported by Indonesia policy of driving/riding licency. Ecological footprint educated everyone to realized. how much they has produced CO2. and also educated the people take an action to reduce it. Many school in indonesia try to apply this program (ecological footprint) by using many appications to calculate CO2, water, electricity, etc. they have consumed.

  • How are the effects of climate change related with power imbalances among countries or within countries?

As a developing country, Indonesia, has a bondar forest which supplies excersive O2. Indonesia can be as "in supplying O2". Industries countries always produce a high emision. That's the Gap.

Hi Aldi,

Thanks for your blog entry for assignment 1c.

I love that your school has a program to be a school without a carbon footprint -- that's amazing! I can honestly say that I seriously doubt any school in Canada would ever be able to achieve that under our current circumstances, at least not without buy a LOT of carbon offsetting credits. What other applications have you used to calculate your carbon footprint? Can you provide some links?

I completely agree that there's a massive gap between the carbon footprints of developing countries and industrial, developed countries. But, some developing countries also have high carbon footprints due to the lack of advanced technologies that produce less carbon emissions (e.g., cooking fires, etc.). Are there any examples in Indonesia of a task (i.e., cooking, washing/cleaning, waste disposal, etc.) that might produce higher emissions due to a lack of technology?

Thanks again!
