Water footprint

A water footprint is known as the measure of the volume of water, used to produce all the goods and services consumed by an individual, or a group of people.

  • How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

The water footprint calculator really opens your eyes, and increases your awareness on how much water is involved in your life. The water calculator is very relevant, because  water is a resource we all need for our various daily activities, and an individual or community may not even realize how much they may be taking it for granted, in their day to day activities until they take the water footprint calculator test. However, I dont believe that my sugar and sweet consumption has a significant contribution to my water footprint  and majority of the population.

  • How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combating climate change?

The simulator aids in letting you know in which part if your life that you use the most water, and therefore, also tells you the areas of your life where water consumption can be reduced. When thinking of a sustainable planet, water is one of the first things that come to mind, as it is essential for the survival of all life forms. Thus, knowing how much water we use in our daily activities puts us on the track towards a sustainable world, as we can reduce the volume of water we use in excess, and decrease the volume of water wasted due to pollution

  • Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

The simulations have made me realise that to tackle climate change, it isn't necessarily only making big changes in your lifestyle to combat climate change, but there are little changes which matter as well to reduce the volume of water we waste on a daily basis. I believe a very effective method would be to educate the public about the true value of water, how we may be wasting It on a daily basis, and how they can make changes in their lifestyle to prevent further wastage. I believe that it is far better for the environment, if everyone makes small changes to their lifestyle which positively impacts the environment, than a few people who make large changes.

‘Water footprint calculator’ simulation has increased your awareness about how water is important in our day to day life. It stimulated your thinking process how to reduce the water consumption. The simulation is an excellent method of learning how personal contribution to water usage reduction may contribute positive impact to the environment.

Excellent realization!
