1. Ecological Footprint Calculator -Link

  • What part of your ecological footprint most surprised you?

What surprised me the most about my ecological footprint is that we would need 4.3 more planet earths if everyone lived like me in order for everyone to have enough resources.

  • How did your footprint compare to your city’s average (if available) and your country’s average?

My ecological footprint is 7.3. The average American's ecological footprint is 8.6 and the average ecological footprint for a Californian is 5.9

  • Find a location with a smaller carbon footprint from yours, within your own country if possible. What is different about this community from your own? What can you learn from this?

My carbon footprint is 13.4. New York’s carbon footprint is 8.61 as a community. Our communities differ in that we have much hotter weather and less rain, while New York is cold and had a population of 8.548 in 2016, while California had a population of over 800,000 people by 2016.

  • What parts of your footprint do you feel is possible to reduce? What parts don’t?

I think that I could try to use less water and try to encourage my family to reduce using too much power and water.

2. Climate Challenge - Link

  • What strategy did you take in Climate Challenge? Was it effective in reducing emission?

What I did in response to climate change was using products that did not produce as much pollution such as solar and also encouraging the community to use the recycling cans and not littering. I also chose to have more farming, though that did use considerable amounts of water which also had to be solved. What did you think of how the strategy cards represented resources?

  • Do you think some of the strategies/policies would have different impacts than the ones shown in the game?

I thought that having the strategy cards represent resources is interesting because it felt more like a game to me than I think it would have they were just the names of the product/resource. I think that depending on what you decided in the game, you would most likely have a pretty similar impact compared to real life.

  • How did you approach international negotiations? Was it better to lead by example, or attempt to encourage other nations by investing in their green economies?

I found it better for me to invest in their green economies because though I also thought about how to reduce the problems, I agreed with some of the other nations and their ways to solve problems.
