SDG#13- Indigenous people and communities

Environment   Sep 21, 2017 by kyranto

1. What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13?

The most relevant actions/ targets proposed in SDG#13 are that by 4/20/17, seven developing countries successfully completed and submitted the first iteration of their national adaption plans, in response to climate change and developed countries have committed to jointly mobilizing $100 billion per year by 2020 to address the climate-related needs of developing countries and to continue that level of support through 2025. Initial efforts to mobilize resources for the Green Climate Fund raised $10.3 billion and developed - country parties are strongly urged to scale up their financial support.

2. How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities

SDG#13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both indigenous and non-indigenous communities by saying that the extent of the global sea ice fell and drought conditions predominated across much of the globe.

3. What other areas do you think should be taken into account?

I think that factories emitting carbon dioxide should be taken into the account and electric energy consumed by people should also be taken into account because these two factors are the ones that caused climate change in the 1970s.

4. What elements would you incorporate if you had to build and action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people. Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element?

I would incorporate that a lot of states and countries are in a drought, like California and the indigenous people are having trouble to hunt animals for food. I would also incorporate that non-indigenous people are using too much energy made from gas and electricity and are building more factories which emit carbon dioxide.

Great points. I agree what you wrote for the first question- it clearly shows the developing nations, not just the developed, are committed to solving climate change issues, aside from the economical developments.

Here's a question for you to think: How can factories' emission of carbon dioxide link to water issues around the world? Also, how can we raise awareness to the non-Indigenous regarding their excessive usage of gas, electricity, and emission of carbon dioxide?
