United States: 1c - Sarah Su: How Climate Change is affected and effects the economy

Environment   Sep 18, 2017 by sarahsu

My footprint reflects the economy of my country and its colonial relations because my footprint is affected by the economy of my country. The economy of the United States is very stable, which leads me to live a very lavish life and increases my carbon footprint. I am able to live an extravagant life because in a stable economy, salaries are higher which leads to being able to afford many luxuries. In addition to this, there are many large companies in America because the economy is so stable. Since many people in America live like me, America also produces a lot of carbon emissions.

The effects of climate change are related with power imbalances among/within countries because indigenous people who depend on the land now have their power taken away and given to large companies. Large companies cut down trees, use their lands, and then destroy their land, but the indigenous people can’t speak out against these big companies because they could be imprisoned for doing so as shown in the 3rd video. Without climate change, these companies could have gotten their resources from their own land, instead of harming other people’s lands.
