CILT/ BRASÍLIA/ BRAZIL/ 3B- A SUSTAINABLE WORLD- Teacher: Cristina Lourenço

Environment   Sep 12, 2017 by Geovanna Flcão

First of all, we must become aware of the severe reality of the world today, in environmental terms. From there a series of actions must be developed involving the government, the productive means, the communities, the schools and the families, to project the environment.

Me as an human can contribute by strengthening actions such as selective garbage collection, denouncing deforestation and burning, to invite my family members to plant trees in our neighborhood.

In general, colonization by settlement and exploration did not contribute positively to sustainability. Colonization by exploitation has squandered natural resources indiscriminately from a number of nations, such as occurred in Brazil. Settlement colonization, such as that in the United States, because of people's greed ended up hurting the environment as well. That is, since the world is the world, the human being explores all the resources of the planet without worrying about the consequences

Geovanna, thank you for your well thought out post. Recognizing the severity of our situation is so important as we have little time to waste. Recognizing the role that various sectors of society play in climate change is essential to a holistic approach to environmental justice.

Thank you for using examples to explore colonization – it is true that exploitation of resources is an important tool of colonization – in fact, this tool is still being used today. Can you think of current cases in Brazil where indigenous communities are affected by resource extraction? How does this impact indigenous communities a. trying to live off their land? And b. trying to remain connected to their history and culture?
