1) What is your vision for a sustainable world?
My vision for a sustainable world is a place where we wouldn't have to worry about lack of resources. Renewable energy, such as solar, wind, tidal power is effectively utilized across the globe. Also through recycling, materials such as paper, plastic, can, and etc. is used over and over, saving valuable resources. Reckless development must be ceased- cities should be carefully planned out with the cooperation of the government, and consider how cities can coexist with the environment surrounding it. An Internet bulletin in the government homepage must be set up so that the citizens would be able to suggest the government their ideas to maintain sustainability, discuss and debate with others about their ideas, and report a problem regarding environmental issues they witnessed.
2) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?
In order for us as global citizens to promise the future generations a sustainable world, instead of dumping all wastes into a huge container, recycling habits should be done starting now. There must be separate containers where we can dump recyclable wastes, categorized into materials listed in the following link: http://www.wm.com/thinkgreen/what-can-i-recycle.js...
3) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?
Colonization has hindered our journey towards a sustainable planet, introducing technologies that harm the environment, and also used too much resources quickly. As development was a first priority during the age of colonialism, there was zero consideration in both using resources and effort in trying to save the environment at the same time. The quote by an Indigenous person, “Global climate change currently observed has been the result of the excessive and unlimited economic growth of highly industrialized countries, which emitted huge amounts of greenhouse gas emissions to the terrestrial atmosphere at the expense of poor countries that are suffering the adverse impacts of climate change." exactly mirrors the negative effect of colonization that blocks the goal towards a sustainable planet.

I love this photo, there's so many different interpretations to it. It definitely struck my heart in maternal sense. An ode to keeping our earth safe and beautiful
Hi Julia,
Great start! I like how you proposed a solution to the problem at hand-the Internet Bulletin would indeed be a good catalyst as to civic engagement and encourage more discussion. However, I would look at the issue of incentive-obviously the people passionate about climate change would be active on the network you're proposing-but how can we empower those who aren't eco-friendly to contribute to this network, cause it's ultimately those people we're trying to target. I like how you said technology has exacerbated the issue, but my question to you is: how can we USE technology to solve sustainability problems (e.g. develop. into cleaner energy sources, Tesla vehicles).
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks so much for contributing :)
Cheers,
Helen
Great thoughts Julia, Indeed we have the potential to make our world " place where we wouldn't have to worry about lack of resources" in we all get involved in sustainable way of life starting today.
It will be great to read some of the practical ways you have been involved in sustainable living (reducing, reusing and recycle) and your current involved in sustainable community development events.
Have you considered the positive sides of colonization and how we can use those as foundation for a sustainable environment? I will be delighted to read about your thoughts/ideas on that.
Great picture Julia, keep it green, all the way....:)
