Morocco : 1a My Virtual Profile Vision

Environment   Sep 22, 2017 by Chaimaa Adil

Well just think about it, if you can see an attractive landscape, you can start walking toward it no matters how far it is or how many obstacles you’ll face. So we should all start with a vision, even a small one, about a more  sustainable world will be like in a verifiable way.

  • What is your vision for a sustainable world?

We need to clarify about our goals and we need to know where we are going. We need to have a vision, and that vision has to be articulated and socially shared and discussed. Personally I think we should cooperate with generations that follow us, by preserving ressources like cutting enough trees that can be regrown, using recycled materials when possible and preventing deforestation.

  • B) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?

First of all, All companies should accept their responsibility to do no harm to the environment by making products and the production processes cleaner adding to that we should encourage the use of Renewable energies which provides substantial benefits for our climate, our health and economy. I should mention as well that my country Morocco launched action plan to fight devastating  climate change for example banning the use of plastic bags and increasing the share Renewable electricity generation to 52% by 2030.

  • C) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?

It is known that colonization often introduces new plants and animals to new areas, but also brought new diseases that might hurt the indigenous communities, and brought many ideas that hurt the environment and it's ecosystems such as the introduction of guns and axes into new regions where the environment had been previously preserved.

Hi Chaimaa,

Thank you for your thoughtful contributions. I think an important aspect of colonialism to acknowledge is not just the introduction of ideas and diseases but the ongoing land dispossession indigenous communities face on a regular basis. A major element of colonialism is called terra nullius -- the idea that land belongs to no one and is thus open to being claimed by a state. Terra nullius was used as reasoning for massive colonial expansion and the land dispossession of indigenous folks which continues today to satisfy industry needs to resources. When we think about colonialism it is important to think about the ongoing aspects of the system and the ways in which indigenous people continue to have their rights ignored in favour of industry expansion.
