Climate Change Increasing Scarcity of Water - Brett Robbins

Environment   Oct 23, 2016 by Brett Robbins

In Canada, we take our water supply for granted. This is not the case for many countries around the world. The IPCC estimated that for each degree of global warming, about 7% of the global population is predicted to be exposed to a decrease of renewable water resources of at least 20%. This is serious as many countries around the world are already experiencing an increasing scarcity of water, especially in dry seasons. Higher average temperatures and changes in precipitation and temperature extremes are expected to impact the availability of water resources through changes in rainfall distribution, soil moisture, glacier and ice/snow melt, and river and groundwater flows. This will also lead to further deterioration of water quality.

Adapting to climate change is mainly about better water management. In addition, It is essential to improve and share knowledge and information on climate, water, and adaptation measures.

It is imperative that we raise awareness about this issue. This can be done through practically any source of social media. This awareness around the globe will hopefully significantly reduce climate change. This won't fully resolve this issue, but it will allow for less casualties due to water scarcity.
