I can proudly say that the two interactive simulations are my favourite tasks so far. It is such a brillant and smart way to teach youth especially and all citizens how our decisions are crucial and can change the world and make it a better place. It taught me that we all are responsible for what is happening and for what's coming ahead: If we want good things to happen let's have a better and healthier lifestyle.
- Climate Challenge
In the " Climate Change" simulation, I manage to lower CO2 emission and made it my priority. It seemed easy at the beginning but it turned out to be a pretty tough task. I tried to fight any polluting activity, whether by raising taxes, encouraging the use of public transport or improving building regulations... The hardest part was to please citizens, who weren't very aware of what was going on and how CO2 emission was threatening their lives, but considering people's opinion was really important to me, so i tried to balance between satifying the public opinion and lowering carbon emission, and it was extremely challenging. My "green" policy was fruitful as the level of CO2 emitted during my presidency was very low, and people seemed to be satisfied with the work done, but the green policy i opted for was really expensive and the economy was in ruins. This simulation clearly emphasizes the importance of leaders: they play a big role in fighting climate change and protecting the environment by making the right decisions and mobilizing their people.
- Water Footprint Calculator
I was quite surprised by my water footprint, i've always tried as much as possible to limit my use of water and tried to avoid wasteful activities but apparently, i should really try harder than i do. Also, our eating habits have a great impact on the water footprint, meat eaters consume a lot more water than vegetarians. So, i believe that controlingwhat we eating can be very beneficial to the environment (and to our health as well). The parts of my footprint i am definitely ready to reduce is my consumption of meat and replacing cereals with vegetables. But i'm not sure i can reduce my consumption of fruit, sugar and stimulants...
