About Me
Hi! My name is Alexander Reeson and I am from Pimlico State High School in Queensland, Australia. I am 15 years old and I am passionate about football (soccer) and Engineering. As a student participating in this project I am aware about the concerns regarding climate change and am here to bring this problem to light in various countries around the world.
My vision for a sustainable world is to improve the natural resource management around the world, reduce the household energy use and reduce world population in the next 20 to 50 years.
Natural resources are vital to our survival. Natural resources (materials or substances occurring in nature which can be exploited for economic gain) include, soil; water resources; geological features and landscapes; native vegetation, native animals; other native organisms; ecosystems and fossil fuels and minerals. The ecosystems we rely on every day are not infinite. While South Australia is rich in natural resources, our economic and environmental reliance on them is growing and this needs to be managed in a sustainable way. Today humanity uses the resources of the equivalent of about 1.5 Earths. This means it now takes the Earth one year and six months to regenerate what we use in a year. By balancing consumption with production, we will be one step further to managing natural resources in a sustainable way.
With more than 7 billion people in the world, and more every day, our demands for food, water, land and fossil fuels are pushing other species to extinction. We can achieve an ecologically sustainable population in ways that promote human rights; decrease poverty and overcrowding; raise our standard of living; and allow plants, animals and ecosystems to thrive. It’s time to talk — and make policy — about runaway human population growth, the species extinction crisis, and what kind of future we want for wildlife, the planet and ourselves.
