Australia: 3a. Bilateral (Morocco) - Deliberative Process Part 3

Oct 23, 2017 by Zi Hui Chen - Pimlico

Last week we had our bilateral conference with Morocco. We have exchanged some information but it was difficult to interpret at times due to a weak internet connection. To expand our understanding of Morocco, we have also extended this task by comparing the blog posts by the two countries. I have analysed the Australian and Moroccan blogs for 1c. Pre-Conference - Colonial Context.

Similarities and Differences

In our conference we have discovered that the voices of indigenous communities in both Australia and Morocco are often not heard in the debate of climate change. This in turn meant that both governments are not actively doing anything about climate change despite their promises. Like Australia is with coal, Morocco is a major exporter in phosphorus. Both of these minerals can cause diseases which means that exporting more of them will endanger just as many lives. Morocco and Australia have a similar way of thinking when it comes to a countries economy; both agree that countries who are producing more goods are speeding up the effects of climate change.

Things that may be missing from our analysis

Our analysis on colonial relationships could have provided more evidence on how and why our highly functioning economy affects climate change. We could have found some statistics which may help quantify the reality of climate change. We could have also included more information on the Indigenous peoples, who are greatly affected by climate change and need to be heard as much as everyone else.
