Australia: 1b. My Ecological Footprint

Oct 18, 2017 by Amy Tomlinson - Pimlico

My Ecological Footprint:

My results from the Ecological Footprint quiz showed that if everyone on Earth had the same lifestyle as me, we would need 4.7 Earths to support the world’s population. Whilst I was surprised that my results where this high I was also expecting that my results would not be great. This was the second time I took this quiz as the first time I took it the website had not been updated. My results for the quiz before it had been updated were 2.6 Earths (just letting you know so that my results can still be compared with those of you who also took the quiz before it had been updated).

My results were slightly less than Australia’s national averages which I believe was due to my Pescitarian diet (I eat seafood, dairy and eggs but no meat) which means I eat less meat than the average Australian.

The biggest contributor to my ecological footprint was mobility. I believe that I could improve my ecological footprint by taking public transport more often. My family travels overseas every once in a while, so we could also improve our ecological footprint by travelling to closer locations that do not require travelling by plane.
