How is this representation of climate change similar to the other things you’ve read/viewed? How is different?
This representation of climate change was similar to other things that I viewed in the idea that it addressed climate change as a problem and it shared that we can improve the current situation. I liked how the video contained a lot of pictures and vibrant colors which kept it engaging and easy to follow. It specifically focused on indigenous people and how climate change affects them. The video highlighted how the change in temperature has a bigger affect on them. It also educated the viewer on the rights and freedoms that indigenous people have. I haven’t watched many videos regarding indigenous people and it was interesting to learn more about them.
Where do you see the influence of Indigenous peoples in this video? Where is it missing?
The video was told from the perspective of Indigenous peoples and shared what they are experiencing. It also shared about REDD+ and the protection and rights that they receive. REDD+ makes sure that their voices are heard and that they are taken into account when decisions are made.
What solutions to climate change does this video propose?
This video talked about solution consisting of the reduction of carbon emissions by large industrial companies and by the protection of trees. Reducing carbon emissions will help make sure that less carbon dioxide is added to the air. This will help ensure that the problem doesn’t continue to grow. The second solution is to protect trees and lessen deforestation. Keeping and planting more trees will help because trees absorb carbon dioxide which will help reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.
Do you agree with the representation of Indigenous peoples and climate change action in the video? Why or why not?
I agree with the representation of Indigenous peoples and climate change action in the video. I feel that the solutions outlined would really help with climate change. I thought that the representation of Indigenous peoples was accurate and it’s important that their voices are heard. We are all human and our choices affect each other.
What are the opportunities and challenges in taking seriously Indigenous perspectives of climate change? Consider factors that facilitate or hinder ethical responses to climate change, including social and economic inequities, political dynamics, marginalization, discrimination, state, military/police power, etc.
One opportunity in taking Indigenous perspectives of climate change seriously is that we can learn from them and make changes that benefit us all. Communicating in a positive way allows us to live happily and helps us make effective solutions. Some challenges in this is that some major companies need resources in order to survive. If they don’t receive these resources, jobs and economical issues arise. Due to these concerns, some companies may not be willing to compromise and listen.

Hi Claris,
My name is Abedeh and I'm a Ph.D. student in Environmental Engineering recently graduated from the University of Alberta. I'm assigned as your mentor and hopefully can help you in the COP project.
Good job so far! In your response to the second question, I would like to emphasize your answer, that this video was told from the indigenous perspective, so what do you think is missing? Is that all about their needs?
