One main problem here in the USA is electricity production. When we make electricity, we burn a lot of coal, which produces a lot of carbon dioxide, as well as producing a small amount of methane and nitrous oxide. This includes producing, transmitting, and distributing electricity. As epa.gov states, "Although coal accounted for about 70 percent of CO2 emissions from the sector, it represented only about 34 percent of the electricity generated in the United States in 2015." This means that burning coal made up 70% of the emissions from electricity in 2015, but it was only 34 percent of it! In 2015, the electricity production/coal burning accounted for 29% of carbon emissions in the U.S! Also, since 1990, greenhouse gasses have grown 4 percent. We can try to fix this by converting our coal powered turbines into natural gas powered turbines or other renewable sources, which will help not burn as much coal.

Hi Mallory, thanks for your post. How do you think electricity production in the US might be connected to colonization? Who benefits from the various electricity production methods that you mentioned?
