CILT/BRASÍLIA/BRAZIL/2D/teacher: Cristina Lourenço- 2c.: Case study

Environment   Oct 1, 2017 by Shadia Carolina da Silva

I chose Cana Brava Amianto's Mining in Minaçu, Goiás, Brazil, to talk about the impacts that here source extraction cause in that place.

First every resource extraction is bad to the environment because implies in preventing the grow thof vegetation and impeding its regeneration  Environmental, discomfort health, impacts caused by air, water and soil pollution. But in this place of minering has other problem, because the Amianto which is mined from there is toxic for living beings so thousands of people and animals died for Amianto's fault.
In short-term the Amianto's minering can causes diseases in people who live nearby, forests can get over, the local ecosystem is unbalanced , and their tatics to separate the ores of other impurities use things which is very bad to the environment. In long-term the principal effect is the miners who can get cancer and respiratory diseases because of Amianto's extraction, other related to climate change is the liberation of carbon dioxide from the Amianto heating when they want to separate it from other oreo and the deforest for have more minering areas.
The minering company named SAMA is the most benefited from this resource extration, they get what they want, even though it is bad for the other parts involved. The most disadvantaged are the Miners ,your families and people who live there, because they can live their whole live with respiratory diseases and discomfort, get cancer and maybe die because this situation.
the greatest connection of minering and colinization is that they did the minering to explore the ores for increase their economy and the people who lived in Brazil at that time for have money to survive, worked in the mines and this form to win money stay until now but in the present times who commands the ores extraction is Brazil.
Indigenous peoples did not pronounce them selves because don't have tribes near there, but is obvious that they don't accord with this action. Environmental activists there are the miners whore tired and your families, they want to stop the Amianto's minering there that soften the climate change but the local government of Minaçu are claiming the continuing of their use claiming that this is one of the most sources of employment in Minaçu.
I think that the government would have to find other way to create employments for the local people, this form that they use can't be used because is very bad to the environment , humans and animals.

Hi Shadia,

This is an excellent and detailed post. You have covered all of the guiding questions and included the perspectives of the different interests groups.Great work and I noticed how you also connected your case with colonization and climate change!

Keep up the great work,

Allison
