Slovenia: My ecological footprint

Sep 26, 2017 by Gašper Polanec

It has been an amazing discovery for me how much this simulations can change a person and its opinion about their direct connection with the global pollution problems.

I personally think that these simulations need to be spread more widely so more people will see their effect on our planet, and how much their decisions affect all off us and that the smallest changes can lead to big differences.

A lot of people are always talking about how eco-friendly they live, I thought so too, but the carbon footprint calculator completely changed my perspective on how we should live and made me realise that I'm still wasting a lot of power, and other sources and with all that I'm polluting the atmosphere.

Often, us young teens hear, how we should not try to put in motion some drastic change in the world, or better said, in society, becouse we would ˝make a fool of ourselfs˝ and that ˝a single person can not change anything˝. However, in this instance, we most certenly need to raise awareness and put change in motion, for this concerns us, our children, our childrens children… I do not want my son or doughter to have to grow up in a world, which has been completly destroyed by careless behavior, a world, in which the mythical beauty of nature is just that – a myth.

Clearly this matter is of utmost importance, for nature is human tamed – but only just. Nature is wild, sporadic, unpredicteble, and will always come trough in the end. Nature can and will take care of itself, but the question is this: if we do not care about our home, will it care about us?
