What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13?
The most relevant target proposed in SDG#13 to me is target 13.3 which is “improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.” This target is most relevant to me because one person can't stop climate change on their own. You need to educate others in order to really stop climate change. Having more people leaves a bigger impact because there is more actions that is done to stop climate change. I also think this goal is the most attainable because a lot of people have access to the internet, so we can post something on the internet to spread awareness about climate change.
How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities?
The SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by climate change to indigenous and non indigenous communities by having the goal 13.2 which is to “integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning”. This helps indigenous and non indigenous communities because this will reduce climate change nationally, which decreases the amount of water pollution in these communities.
What other areas do you think should be taken into account?
I think that ocean pollution should be taken into account because the ocean makes up more than 70% of our planet. However, the pollution we are generating is trashing up a lot of the ocean, and is killing many marine ecosystems and creatures. For example, many marine animals are killed by either eating pollution or getting trapped in it. Because some animals eat pollution, pollution moves up the food chain and a lot of animals end up eating pollution, which causes a lot of animals to be affected by pollution.
What elements would you incorporate if you had to build and action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people. Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element.
I would incorporate water drainage if I had to build an action/target that addressed water, indigenous people, and non indigenous people. This is because people (indigenous and non indigenous) don’t have a good source of water because the water is polluted. A reason that the water is polluted is because we don’t have a good place to drain our water. When we drain liquids, they often end up going to water sources, harming the water’s ecosystems and what uses it. Because of this, if we wrote a target concerning where we would drain our water, there would be less water pollution.
