United States: 2a. Climate Change is Our Shared Problem

Sep 24, 2017 by jennifercruden

1. What are the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13?

One of the most relevant actions/targets proposed in SDG#13 is that developed countries have committed to donating $100 billion per year to help developing countries with climate-related needs. SDG#13 also mentions that developed countries are encouraged to donate even more to the Green Climate Fund than they are now. I think this is the most relevant action/target proposed in the SDG#13 because it shows that developed countries believe enough in climate change that they are committed to donating money to developing countries and their climate-related needs.

2. How do SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water in both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities?

SDG #13 targets respond to the challenges created by the effects of climate change in water by encouraging developed-countries to donate more money and by implementing risk reduction strategies.

3. What other areas do you think should be taken into account?

I think that they could have added a little more detail so the reader could understand all the aspects of what they have written.

4. What elements would you incorporate if you had to build an action/target that addressed water, Indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous people? Provide a brief rationale that justifies each element.

I would incorporate that some places are in droughts while others frequently get floods. This would probably end up making the actions/targets slightly different from each other depending on the place. I would also add in that people should be educated on climate-related water issues and solutions and just water issues overall because there are some people who don't know about these issues and don't know how to help. Finally, I think non-indigenous people should be aware of the indigenous people around them and make sure that if they are going to do something like go to a new area and install water pipes there, they make sure that they don't end up taking water from the wells of indigenous people who already live there.
