Morocco: 1a. Pre-Conference: Creating a profile in the virtual classroom

Sep 24, 2017 by Anaïs Amri

Hello guys, it is a pleasure to be back on the platform and finally be able to discuss once again climate change with all of you.

Climate change is the rise of temperatures on Earth, caused by the emission of greenhouse gases due to human excessive use of fossil fuels. We can then conclude that it's mainly our fault. Our environment is standing today in a very critical situation and all of us are affected by climate change. It is true that some of us might be less affected than others but it is no reason to not try and change the situation. We should all feel concerned.

The right side is a place we all dream of, a healthy and sustainable world where hundreds of generations could live. The left side is a dark world, one we're leaning towards. We can watch the destruction of Earth happening right in front of our eyes, yet some of us aren't even conscious of the seriousness of the situation.

A sustainable world is one where we maintain all resources in balance, so we don't influence the life of future generations in some bad way. It is achievable if we unify our efforts and everyone show interest. We could use renewable energies and make some changes in our lifestyle, but I think that the main key is a quality education. Educating people from their youngest age to take care and respect Earth is the main pillar to creating a sustainable world.

Hi Anais,

I appreciate your use of images to show a contrast between that which we desire and the dire future ahead if we do not find a sustainable solution. While I definitely agree that education is fundamental in shifting our culture around environmental sustainability, do you think that educating individual people will be enough to shift an economy dependent on environmental degradation? What role do you think governments and industries have in changing this culture?
