CILT, Brazil, Brasília E6 Teacher: Denise Bomtempo - Pedro Igor Silva: 1C Sustainability and Economy

Environment   Sep 23, 2017 by Pedro Igor Oliveira Silva

By performing the carbon footprint it was possible to verify that sustainability, popular approval, and economic growth are challenges of a president or a leader today.

When investing in sustainability the leader may be investing financially in resources that are not interesting to the economy and consequently to the population. But this is not why efforts should be abandoned for a more sustainable world. We must find ways to at least compensate for resources that have already been consumed, to get in balance.

This should be the goal of all of us, invest in sustainable solutions that can bring progress to the economy even if little.

Hi Pedro,

You have raised a very interesting aspect of the current climate change issues and I believe that leaders today have some difficult choices to make regarding what is best for the climate but possibly not best for the economy. This may also have an impact on their popularity with voters. Hopefully, when leaders make these decisions, they do not further negatively impact the people living off the land and who are most vulnerable. Perhaps sustainability is a way to include the most vulnerable people in the solution and to provide new or better jobs for them. It seems there are a lot of possibilities. How do you think leaders of the world will get around the problem of doing what is best for the climate without negatively impacting the local economy?
