The impacts colonization in Brazil:

_The decimation of indigenous tribes.

_ Deforestation of the coast in search of the Pau-Brazil.

_In addition to the strengthening of the Portuguese crown

the colonization, comes whit urbanization and industrialization without planning. The alarming growth of cities without any urban planning are one of the cause of various environmental impacts ( environmental impacts are the negative consequences generated by the environment, originating from human actions. These actions can cause various types of environmental degradation in soil, water and vegetation ).

In Brazil, since colonization, we have records of environmental problems, such as the deforestation of the Atlantic forest, near the coast, where 90% of the original area has already been cleared. Added to this and not least, the Amazon is also a place rich in beauty, rich fauna and flora, which is also constantly devastated by humans

The destruction and modification of mangroves and dunes also contributed to the degradation of the environment. Along with this environmental change, we have the construction of ports, houses, hotels, extraction of salt and minerals.

But it was not only the coast that suffered environmental problems. The cerrado and the northeastern backlands were also severely damaged, causing very serious environmental impacts, such as drought and the migration of animals.

Industry The pollution of rivers and seas are also environmental impacts caused by the action of man on the planet. They happen because of the lack of waste treatment and basic sanitation in some fairly populated areas.

Hi Anna,

You have clearly identified many environmental impacts of colonization in Brazil and current environmental issues. How do these issues connect with the modern economy? How is this connected to the carbon footprint of Brazil? Also, is there any connection of climate change problems with power imbalances between Brazil and other countries or within Brazil? You touched on a very interesting concept of urban planning and modernization without planning. Are there any measures that could be taken to change these problems? How do you think better urban planning would help reduce environmental issues? You are off to a great start, but do try to remember to find the connections between these big ideas.
