Canada: Interactive Simulation, Badr

How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

These simulations relate to my community because of the fact of how it shows how much of an impact individuals have around me have on the environment. I realized that climate change has much to do with amount of carbon emission that we personally produce by taking cars, buying food that is not locally grown etc. I felt that all these simulations were very relevant for the fact that the people around me have a very similar impact on the earth as I do.

How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combating climate change?

These simulation helped me know where we need to start in fighting climate change. It's not by getting angry at companies and our government because that's not getting us anywhere, if we want to start combating climate we must make personal change in our communities. We would have to change our way of living so that it can not have such an overwhelming impact on our climate.

Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

Definitely, a lot of times I believe that we blame the effects of climate change on industries and our government and we end up neglecting the personal impact that we are creating. We fail to recognize that the detriment that we are creating personally, far exceeds any other factor of climate change and many of those factors exist because of our consumption.

Hi Badr,

It is great that you're informed on how climate change can affect you and your community on a day to day basis. Since you said it's not by getting angry at governments and companies, what do you think we can do to work with them and encourage and influence them to support sustainability efforts, get more people in the community involved so climate change would be on the agendas of our officials, and how to empower, understand, and reason with even those working in oil and coal plants, to switch to greener technologies in the future?

Thanks for this great submission; keep it up!

I agree with you. All individuals make an impact on the environment. And that our environment could get affected by any actions a single person make when it comes to things that could harm the environment and by your answer on how simulations can help by combating climate change, it made me also realize that I shouldn't panic right away from the start or blame someone else. Instead, I should act and help contribute as a better individual to help the community. We must always remember the importance of simulations in our lives.
