Costa Rica - Carbon footprint

Sep 2, 2017 by Gloria Gutierrez
  • How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

By doing this simulations we are more aware of the problems we are confronting and how much does it affect us. Also it give us the way of how we can make a change in our daily life to solve the problem. The simulation more irrelevant in my opinion was the Carbon footprint, this simulation help us understand how our daily routine affect the world. What we eat, how much we use the car, how long we take in the shower, etc.  Make our Carbon footprint much bigger. This simulations are a fun way of make us know what we are doing wrong.

  • How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combatting climate change?

This simulations helped me a lot, I realized how all the things we do can affect climate change and how we can  solve this problem. It was a fun and interesting way of learning how even the smallest things we do can affect us. One of the solutions they provide us is doing the correct diet choices and cutting food waste can help us to decrease our Carbon footprint.

  • Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

The most useful simulation was the Carbon footprint, it make me more aware of how much proceeded food I ate, so know I will convince my family to grow the vegetables and fruit in our backyard. Also we could change our diet and instead of eating meat all the weeks we could start eating like vegetarian once a week. All this things helped me change  my Carbone footprint a lot.

Now in day we cultivate in our backyard, lettuce, tomatos, pepper, etc. Also we have change our diet a littlebit and now we eat pasta and salads more often.

Good one Gloria! realisation of our own contributions to the problem is the first step in mitigating climate change impacts, taking individual action is the next big step. The problem of climate change is real but we are equal to the task since we have the will.

It will be nice to read of your progress and that of your family in reducing your Ecological Footprint and better still If you can journal your progressive actions and results in terms of reduction global hectares.

Goodluck!

Hi Sandra, thanks for your advice, to be honest it have been kind of hard to change our diet but we are still working on it :)
