A) What is your vision for a sustainable world?

My vision for a sustainable word is a world were people are more aware of environmental problems and are willing to make sacrifices in order to help the planet. My vision of a sustainable world has people using fuel efficient cars in order to reduce pollution, people have energy efficient homes, there is renewable energy, more people recycle and use environmentally friendly materials when constructing and industries make more biodegradable products.

B) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?

To make my vision reality, first, I need to start educating myself better on what's happening and what I need to do help. Then I need to start reducing and recycling myself to then get the rest of my family to help me make my vision a reality. I believe the most important thing to make change is to make a change of my own and after that to help inform people, to encourage people to start making a change and to help my community so we can all aim for a sustainable world.

C) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?

I believe colonization has had both a negative, and a positive impact on our journey to a sustainable planet. For example, thanks to colonization we are able to have different types of agriculture, which gives us a variety of products, but at the same time, those products can contaminate and/or bring diseases or plagues. Another thing colonization has given us is the possibility to learn from other cultures and live from other cultures making countries grow. The problem of countries growing is that factories increase, polluting the environment and increasing deforestation.

Very right, humans are major drivers of change in the environment. Therefore, the development of any responsible and responsive action to mitigate or adapt to climate change will depend on their understanding of the level of the impact of their activities on the environment and the recognition of their moral and ethical responsibility to the environment.

And yes, the best way to make a change is to start from oneself.  And It will be nice to read about the progress you've made so far in reducing and recycling and ways you plan to sustain your progress and eventually get your family and community to follow your example. one beneficial tip is consistency, keep saying it and doing it consistently...:)

Can the cities actually develop without pollution, deforestation and the likes?.......

I absolutely love your green fuel image... #thewayofsustainability.

Great write up Marisol

Thank you for your input!! About my progress in reducing and recycling I started with small changes that actually have a big impact, things I thought weren't very important before but now I realize they are very important. For example:

1. Turning the lights off: every time I see a light on which is not needed I turn it off regardless if it's at home or not

2. Not using single-use plastic: like straws and plastic bags

3. Avoid leaving the water running: while I wash my teeth, clean the dishes or even when I wash my hair

4. Separating trash (in school, public places and at home) since many times I threw my trash in the first trash can I saw although there were different trash cans I didn't think it through in order to put my trash in the corresponding trash can, but now I do!!

  • I have spread the word with my family and friends, telling them about my new project (decarbonize: decolonize) and sharing with them all the information I have being learning, I have shared with them what I have done in order to make a change so they can have ideas on where to start, for example many of family members and friends have stoped using single-use plastic and are now recycling at home.
  • In order to sustain my progress I have been setting goals, I have my own goals, I start by small things and then go bigger on what I want. I believe everything is possible with hard work and a clear vision of what I want to do.
  • To answer your question about cities being able to develop without pollution, deforestation and the likes, I believe it is possible if there is a carbon-mitigation program and policies in pro of climate change mitigation.
