#Decarbonize : Decolonize Project 2017-18

Virtual Profile

Answer the following two questions, and find an image online that captures some aspect of how you view climate change.

  • A) What is your vision for a sustainable world?

My vision for a sustainable world is to have all countries have a large (and cheap) company to provide renewable energy in products such as electricity and more. Also, increasing the prices of gasoline would be my vision for a sustainable world. If people consume gasoline, the atmosphere traps in more fossil fuels. If gasoline is too expensive for people, then they will convert to more economical options.

  • B) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?

I am planning to exhibit a piece of writing/depiction that communicates to people that our world will not become a safe place to live in if we continue to consume energy inefficiently. To add positivity to my project, I will exhibit the result of using renewable energy and having an alternative to gasoline-run vehicles.

  • C) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?

Colonization has impacted our journey to a sustainable planet by not allowing the beauty of nature to continue to thrive. 70% of the world is made up of water, and that amount of water is increasing at higher rates than ever. More and more fossil fuels are being trapped into the Earth’s atmosphere because of the constant emissions of greenhouse gases. One week ago, I was in the island of Bali. Smog filled the air because of the glut of motorcyclists and cars packed into a small amount of space. When civilizations overrun areas of land, they typically build large buildings to prove that they own the land. This releases tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere because of the construction. Clearly, colonization has impacted our journey towards a sustainable planet by increasing the amount of fossil fuel emissions into the atmosphere because of the transportation to the place and construction at the site.

Good piece! Nice details and structure. However, I think you can add more to your second entry because it was a little to brief. How can you reduce gasoline and fossil fuels in your everyday life? Nice job on the colonization entry!
