Australia: 1a My Virtual Profile

Environment   Aug 5, 2017 by Sae Hyun Jang

I chose this picture because the world resources are diminishing at an alarming rate and we are not producing enough back at a sufficient rate to replenish the consumption. Therefore, if we do not tend to this significant global problem the human race will become extinct.

What is your vision for a sustainable world?

As the world's population is dramatically increasing every year, the demand for food and resources are continually growing as well. Therefore, we have to be able to replenish the resources we consume at an efficient and sustainable rate in order to create a balance between production and consumption. If immediate change isn't imminent the world will run of out resources and food, therefore we will die out.

What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?

To create a balance between production and consumption we need to be able to create sustainable agriculture in order to feed the demanding global population. This can be achieved through changing the methods of farming; by switching conventional farming to permaculture farming we can utilise nature to significantly benefit us. By implementing permaculture farming it will save approximately 2700 gigatonnes of carbon worldwide. Thus, this will improve the overall quality of soil by increasing the maximum amount of water it can hold, as well as increasing nutrient availability and the overall structure of the soils. If this change is implemented we can significantly increase the chance of the human race thriving.

What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?

Colonization has had a significant impact on the world. It has allowed a massive advancement in technology which has significantly benefited us however, on the flip side it has created mass pollution which is negatively effecting the environment at an alarming rate.

You showed both pros and cons of how colonization impacted on our journey towards a sustainable planet- after reading your answers, I got the idea the include the pros for my answers. Also, I never thought of the idea about using agriculture as a sustainable resource. Your ideas are very detailed, such as mentioning specifically about saving 2700 gigatonnes of carbon worldwide.

The picture you uploaded above is a heavy warning of imbalance of resources. A truly powerful message.

Hello,

I liked your answers. It is important to be aware of the food shortage, as we have evolved with technology, medicines, and we are increasingly confronted with alarming inequalities. Here in Brazil, for example, we produce 185 million tons of grains. However, about 7 million people are hungry.

The question is why is there still hunger in the world?

Wow! This is fantastic.

A detailed response and evocative image choice. I look forward to reading more!
