Endangered Animals

Environment   Oct 7, 2016 by Ellie Syth

This post is different than the other one that I wrote. I want to expose endangered species. Many of us know about the polar bear, the black rhino, and others that are critically endangered. But there are other animals that are endangered that we don't think about. I know that in the US a new movie came out recently called Finding Dory. This is a sequel to the Finding Nemo movie. In Finding Nemo there is a group of turtles that they join in the East Australian Currant. These turtles are favorite characters of many children from these movies and Sea Turtles have gotten a lot of light from them. But there is a species of Sea Turtle on the endangered species list. It is the Green Sea Turtle. They are the only herbivore sea turtle, eating sea grasses and kelp. Hunting, poaching and egg gathering have taken a toll on the sea turtle, but boat strikes are more dangerous to the population, plus it damages the boat that hit it. Chemical pollution also causes tumors on the turtle and reduces hydrodynamic abilities for escape from predators. I hope that I have opened someone's eyes to the plight of the Green Sea Turtle, and I hope that we can help them, in various ways. One way might be having restricted beaches during the time of year when they are laying their eggs. Having fish finders or some radar to detect them on boats to reduce boat strikes. Please, leave a comment and lets help these turtles. Read more about endangered animals at my blog: http://104343.site123.me/

Hi Ellie, Thanks for your post! It's good to think beyond just the direct effects of carbon and changes in climate to other things we might change to make the world a more hospitable place to the other creatures we share it with. While some of this can be directly related to climate change, other areas of it are as a result of human negligence, and as you mentioned, poaching, which is unacceptable. Thanks Ellie!
