All human beings have needs to sustain their lives. These needs are from the resources that can be found in our environment, resources that are renewable and not. Most of us know that resources would just restore, regenerate and create a new batch of it but later do we know that all of these resources can just suddenly extinct without us noticing it. We tend to focus more on its benefits and help in our lives that we forget its importance and value. Now-a-days global warming or what we call climate change is very evident and affects the life of each individual may it be from the youngest child to the oldest person. It affects not only the humans but also other living things such as animals and our nature, this climate change also somehow affects the economy of a country. Due to extreme typhoons and heat from La Niña and El Niño, these factors affects the production of crops and lifestyle of everyone.
In our simulation activity it was pretty effective since it made me realized things that I failed to acknowledge before. Both of them was relevant and eye opener to youths like me. The first simulator talks about the gallons of water consumption of each individual and as a whole in your own home, which is called water footprint. This simulator made me realized that factors that I haven’t noticed before can add up to my water consumption in each day like the processed food we take, or what we call virtual water. Water consumption doesn’t just start indoor, it is also evident outdoor and virtually. In my water footprint result, it shows that my water footprint is 2,802 gallons/day while in our household it’s about 22,318 gallons/day. Through this activity I realized that the population of person living in a house will affect the water consumption, it is somehow distributed equally to each of the members. Also, this stimulation help me find a place in combating climate change by letting me see my water consumption, that it takes a lot of gallons just for me to survive each day. It enlightened my mind and opened my eyes that I should lessen my consumption and find ways to help the environment not destroy it more. It helped me see and give importance to the effects of too much consumption of it not only the benefits that I can gain.
Water would just come and go; it has its own cycle in order to sustain other creatures and to water our nature. Water covers the total of 70% of earth, it surrounds every land. It is considered as the most important necessity among humans; one can live without food but not without water. That’s why it’s considered as the most relevant one but due to our irresponsibility we tend to disregard its importance and cleanliness just for us to be benefited. Numbers of water surface are now polluted due to human’s selfishness. This can contribute to the increasing rate of climate change. We should not blame nature for being like that, since we are the ones destroying and making them does it.
In our second simulation activity, I realized that being a president that is in charge of the whole country is a tough and hard job. You have to consider lots of factors before imposing projects because in just one wrong decision it can affect your economy and most especially the environment specifically the carbon emission. Through this activity I learned that everything is interconnected, one factor can affect another. It’s somehow like a domino effect once you touched one of its blocks it will continue to fall unless you stop it and find another way to rebuild it. In this activity, I realized that reducing carbon emissions in the environment is really hard you have to consider factors that will not back feed other resources, which can’t be avoided in this simulation and even in real life. After I experience being the “President Charltone” of Europe, I realized that resolving a problem may it be in economic and environment related is really challenging since resources and other factors can be sacrificed in order to achieve one, it is possible to have both but it’s a trial and error thing and it’s really difficult to have both of them in a high percentage. I, myself only had a high percentage in terms of environment since I most likely gave more attention to it since it’s the goal of the game although it affected the country’s wealth and popularity.
Earth is a very precious thing, it is the only planet that has life, a planet that human lives, loves and unites. And being one community we should open our minds and heart to start taking care of the environment. We should not wait for the time that all of these resources are already gone and we are the ones being detached in our own planet. Climate change is just starting through our ways in taking care of it and giving attention to it will help in reducing its effects. Climate should not be the ones attached with the word change, it should be us human being that should change, change our selfish, and irresponsible ways and thinking. Let’s start changing the environment into a much greener and cleaner one, make it a more of a paradise for humans not a paradise of destruction. WE STILL HAVE TIME, ACT NOW BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. Environment is to be nourished not to be diminished.
