Thoughts on Simulations

Environment   Sep 27, 2016 by Mackenzie Kreplin

I thought that the foot print calculator was really cool because I could see how I compare to other people within my country. Considering how poor Ghana is I was not surprised that I use more carbon than the average Ghanaian. I did not like the climate change game. It was hard for me to grasp how it worked. I felt that the water calculator and the foot print calculator were probably a little inaccurate because there were somethings I just had to guess on. I think by seeing how much carbon and water I use I was influenced to reduce my usage when possible.

That's good to here that you feel that way Mackenzie. I guess it might have been the same feeling I got when I had seen the landscape after my father had moved through it harvesting the spruce and birch trees for our mill yard I have left my job since then because I didn't like the scene. Thanks for sharing your ideas on the Carbon footprint simulation.

I agree with you: the calculators were a little confusing at times. But I do think it opens your eyes to how many resources we are using doesn't it?

Foot print calcuators are a good way to measure the carbon footprint

That's really amazing! As an Alaskan student we recently participated in a similar activity. We took a survey to discover our own water footprint. I too found that my footprint was larger than many other Alaskans. Like you this information encouraged me to save water whenever I can. Starting with taking less showers!

I liked how you noticed how much carbon and water you use. also being able to know how much you use helps you to quit using as much.

I liked this activity as well, for the same reason. It really showed how different everyone's usage is.

I found that my footprint was much bigger than I had anticipated, I have made moves to attempt to fix this issue.

It's true. My total usage of resources was surprisingly high. I need to fix this.

I agree with you. I also thought it was interesting to see other student results in my class. I also wanted to reduce my water usage wherever possible.

It's amazing how much water we use without realizing how important it is.

I understand that, I do have a pretty big carbon footprint.
