About Me

Soooooooo.... I'm Jasmine and I go to Pimlico State High School in Australia. I will try to write the generic profile stuff (since this is "About Me"), but this is also for school, so I have almost no idea what to write nor the manner in which to write it, so I will try my very best not to bore you. :3
*Can’t smile properly in this photo as you can see*
I can’t selfie.

Interests:

- Gems and Minerals: I love these, but I can't put my finger on exactly what I like about them, maybe it's just that a rock can look so beautiful. I learn cabochon and faceting at the local club, and at that place, pretty manicured nails don't fly. In fact, I find it quite funny when some people turn up with fancy nails to the grinding wheels... I know that my nails are pretty dismal from it.

- Weather: Different weather phenomena fascinate me, and I have a particular interest in storms such as tornadoes and such, but I’m not exactly sure that I’ll give storm chasing a go one day :3

My Opinion on Global Warming and Sustainability:

1) My vision of a sustainable world
I don't have a very distinct vision at all, however, I do have a few ideas of what it could be.

Recently, I have heard talk of mining on asteroids. I think that this is a totally awesome idea as it will greatly reduce mining here, and the associated negative effects, especially on habitat destruction and such. If this were to happen, the areas where mines where could be used as tree plantations to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere or to create the habitats that were destroyed by the mines.
Unfortunately, at present, this idea is extremely impractical as our space travel is not ideal for this kind of work, and is extremely unsafe for any probes/ships we send there, let alone people. And, although minerals would be abundant there, I believe it would be just as costly to get a mission there in the first place.

Transportation. With fossil fuels being used much faster than they are produced and more cars on the roads, fossil fuels like petrol and diesel are not going to last. As well as this, fossil fuels have a terrible and lasting effect on the environment—increasing the amount of carbon and greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. My vision of sustainable transport is to find alternate but effective fuels to replace the fossil fuels we use today. Some car companies, most famously Tesla, are creating ‘pure-electric’ cars that run entirely on electricity. I believe that this is an excellent step towards making this vision a reality, but as of right now, they are too expensive for the general public to afford. However, in the mean time, there are ‘hybrid’ cars that combine both fossil fuel and electricity that are significantly more affordable than Tesla’s cars.
(Quick side note, in the interests section, it won’t let me add transportation so I’ll say that it’s an interest of mine here.)

2) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?

Unfortunately, I don’t see myself in any position to make this vision a reality, even though I am participating in this project, and through it, I might be able to help this vision become a reality.

3) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?

I will be honest here, and say that I’m not entirely sure, but I am however sure that colonization has had both a negative and positive impact on our journey to a sustainable planet.
The negative impacts could include the increase of world population increases the demand of natural resources, and the advancement of technology (Industrial Revolution etc.), again increasing the demand on natural resources and contributing to population growth (medicine—death prevention etc.)
The positive impacts also include the advancement in technology to realise the issues that the world now faces and to take steps to attempt to reduce the negative impacts and to help create a sustainable world (advancement of renewable energy such as solar, wind power etc.)
