Environment   Oct 21, 2017 by Precious Leleh

The Niger delta of Nigeria covers 20,000kmSq within the Wetland of 70,000kmsq, home to 20 millions people and 40 ethnic groups in Nigeria. The ecosystem is endowed and contains one of the highest biodiversity on the planet. The region could experience a loss of 40% of its inheritable terian in the next thirty years as a result of dam construction and carelessness of oil industry.

This region have witnessed the slow poisoning of the waters , destruction of the fauna and flora and lands by oil spills which occurs during petroleum operators.

Since the inception of the oil industry in Nigeria more than 25years ago , there has been no concerned and effective effort on the part of the government, let alone oil operators to control environmental problems associated with the industry.
