United States: 2C Pre-Bilateral - Case Study

Environment   Oct 18, 2017 by brianwu

The USA (United States of America) is using a method called “fracking,” which is another word for hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing is when hazardous chemicals are injected into the Earth to release natural gas. However, this process harms the ecosystem. For example, these chemicals may get into freshwater sources and into people’s immune systems, which could lead to bad health. These chemicals are mostly found in water sources that are more directly connected to the Earth, such as wells. Adding on, these hazardous chemicals such as sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide harm the environment. These chemicals may stay in the earth for a long time, and damage ecosystems. Furthermore, these dangerous chemicals may also get released into the atmosphere, polluting the air.

Also, fracking is being debated by many people. For example, the government does not think fracking is dangerous and does not make any moves to correct it. However, this method is not sustainable and damages our planet. Eventually, all of the natural gases of the Earth will be absorbed. Different people benefit from fracking and different people get negatively affected by it. Oil prices may decrease. However, some companies will not benefit from fracking because of decreasing prices. Most importantly, the communities that live near fracking wells get greatly affected because of pollution.

The process of fracking is also affected by colonization. As our population increases, there is more natural gas used up. Eventually, the amount of natural gas will decrease dramatically. However, people still believe that we can preserve the Earth if we all just use a bit less energy.
