Anti Fracking Efforts in Algeria Case

According to what is being investigated, there are protesters in Algeria to stop the fracking operations in the area, as it can cause many damages not only in the nearby village but also the environment.

For starters it is the fracking, fracking a process of forcing drinkable water, chemicals and sand to high pressure in underground rocky deposits. This process causes the stones to break and the shale gas is recovered and oil is also known as "narrow oil" that gets trapped in the stone; the problem of fracking is that the pressure that breaks the stones contaminates the underground water deposits.

The Algerian government introduced hydraulic fracking in Ayn Saleh, Algeria; to extract shale gas from these deserts. Mohad Gasmi led the demonstration against the fracking, after the demonstration all the provinces near the site of fracking organized protests, they were 5 months with continuous protests which caused that the operations of fracking were suspended.

The short-term effects are the chemicals used, one of the chemicals used is methane that under pressure releases a gas that goes to the atmosphere, the release of gas into the atmosphere is not just one of the problems but also the diseases produced by this chemical, in addition to the chemicals that are affecting us also wastes a lot of water when doing this process.

Also some long-term effects may be resource depletion, groundwater contamination, health problems caused by particulate diesel matter, such as asthma, high blood pressure, anemia, heart attacks and cancer, release of gas from greenhouse effect. The biggest problem is the contamination of the groundwater that can be produced with the use of chemical products.

Definitely Daniela, one of the gravest threats posed by fracking is the contamination of drinking water wells, vital sources of water for many rural communities.

Discussions on the pros and cons of fracking are deeply divided at the moment... Please can you share your thoughts about fracking?

Great job Daniela, we all have to stand up for clean air, water, environment and the likes, its our collective responsibility.
