- Who benefits from this resource extraction? Who is disadvantaged? How is this connected to colonizatio?
The economies of the countries that make up the Middle East are linked to oil extraction and refining. Sometimes this is practically a single source of revenue for certain countries. As a region consists basically of deserts with adverse climates, unsuitable for agriculture, a greater wealth they undoubtedly possess oil. Among the various oil jewels in the Middle East, a greater concentration of the resource is without the Persian Gulf and Mesopotamia, which together hold about 60% of all reserves of the planet. The huge reserve of non-subcontinent oil, coupled with other economic and political factors, favored the creation of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries). Currently, OPEC produces approximately 40% of all oil extracted in the world and 70% of resource exports across the globe. This organization has major markets as major world powers, especially European countries such as Germany and France, as well as Japan and the United States. Even though the United States is a major producer, it needs the imported product, since it is not self-sufficient in appeal. This fact favors the interference of large nations without a geopolitical scenario in the Middle East. It is worth noting that the economic limitation in relation to oil may prevent countries from developing in other productive activities, such as industrial. Thus, most Middle Eastern births are not considered industrial, with the exception of Israel that has better rates than its neighbors. What should be taken into account is the depletion of mineral resources, in which oil is inserted, so that when the deposits are exhausted, as economies that depend on the activities will enter into an economic collapse.

Hi Isabele,
You have an informative post. It is an interesting case in the Middle East with the economies heavily dependent on resources. What are the connections with colonization and OPEC? Also, what about the connection with climate change? These pieces with make your post even stronger.
