CILT-BRASÍLIA-BRAZIL/2D/TEACHER:CRISTINA LOURENÇO

Oct 1, 2017 by Talles

A place in Brazil that happens extraction is in Minas Gerais, there has a very large gold extraction. The impacts are with the environment, destroying the soil and deforesting trees.

Who benefits from the extraction is the person who is practicing this, can be people who live in Minas Gerais or companies made just to mine, so they can sell the gold and make money. Whoever is at a disadvantage is the people who live nearby, and the animals too, as this damages the environment and ends up killing some animals, and the soil is also damaged by the machines.

Few people / companies think about environmental preservation, what they most want is money, with the sale of precious stones, those are the interests of the people who do it.

Hi Talles,

Great that you chose a specific location in Brazil to focus on.  You have clearly identified some of the problems associated with gold extraction. Is there an indigenous perspective on this issue? What is the connection with climate change? Is it the deforestation, emissions from mining?

Thank you for sharing about this issue.

Allison
