1. How is this representation of climate change similar to the other things you’ve read/viewed? How is different?
The video describes the impacts of Carbon Dioxide and Deforestation and their consequences on the forests and the Indigenous Population residing in them. It also helps us to realise that we,the people of the Urban Population, are to be blamed for the change in climate of the Earth. As mentioned in the video the way people live in the forests does not bring any harm to the forests or the Earth and it also helps in the economical balance of the Earth.
2.Where do you see the influence of Indigenous peoples in this video? Where is it missing?
The whole video revolves around an elder speaking to his tribe in concern of the forests, their life, and the climate change observed in particular. It also gives a mention of the 300 indigenous people who live in those areas of the world which are main targets of deforestation and rapid industrialisation and colonisation. The FPIC (Free Prior and Informed Consent) and the "Declaration" help the indigenous tribes to avoid the cutting of forests and help them lead a life which benefits the environment.
3.What solutions to climate change does this video propose?
The video clearly states that the governments should take charge of reducing climate change (carbon emissions) by doing two things,i.e., making agreements with industrialised countries to decrease carbon emissions and reduce and possibly stop deforestation. Also, this is part of a worldwide agreement called REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) which pays developing countries, for not cutting down their forests. The video also states that everyone's suggestion, choices should be heard and taken into consideration.
4. Do you agree with the representation of Indigenous peoples and climate change action in the video? Why or why not?
The video gave a good representation of indigenous people and their views on climate change. It threw light on their opinion and was helping people understand that even indigenous tribes can hep in contributing towards a peaceful and golden future. It also showed good strategies that can help to reduce climate change.
5.What are the opportunities and challenges in taking seriously Indigenous perspectives of climate change? Consider factors that facilitate or hinder ethical responses to climate change, including social and economic inequities, political dynamics, marginalization, discrimination, state, military/police power, etc.
Making the government recognise Indigenous perspectives on climate change issues is a large challenge that can hopefully be helped by REDD+. This will lead to many opportunities to reduce climate change and keep Earth’s environments safe.
