Meriem and I were both surprised by our ecological footprint, we got nearly the same results in both the water footprint calculator and the ecological footprint calculator. We just realized how much we are hurting the nature every single day and how much the nature suffers everyday from every individual ecological footprint of 7 billion people. That’s why it's urgent to take action NOW.
We believe that in our local community the ecological footprint is going to be nearly the same for everyone (50 to 70 per cent of carbon emission), although it varies a lot depending on the financial income of everyone. But the more a person earns, the bigger is their impact on the environment. So basically these simulations are relevant to our community and picture well how much we pollute the environment and makes it clear that immediate action must be taken.
Before doing these tests, we thought that we were protecting the environment and didn’t hurt it that much. But after, we have come to realize that the initiatives we have taken have not been sufficient and adequate to bring about a change in the disturbed environmental conditions of our world. These simulations made us recognize that we must multiply our efforts to minimize the danger our ecological system is facing.
However these efforts should all be centered on a common strategy to tackle the global pollution in an efficient way. To make that happen we have to focus on the main sectors of pollution and reconciliate them with nature, In the industrial sector, we should create laws that limit the exploitation of natural resources and restricts waste, as well as develop green energies to replace the fuel ones. In agriculture we should promote bio products that do not require any harmful chemicals. In the individual level, we should choose carefully the products we buy as many of them are harmful to the environment, and try to minimize our carbon emission as much as we can and of course take all sort of action that is capable of promoting change. And of course keep in mind that this can only be done if we work hand in hand!

Hi Nada and Meriem,
It can be very alarming to realize the impact that we have on the environment -- I appreciate your self-reflection and awareness. You are right in suggesting that addressing climate change needs to occur on many levels, including industry, agriculture and in our personal lives. After being made aware of your impact and doing the deep thinking you have, what concrete actions do you plan on taking to address the above concerns? How can high school students pressure industry to change their laws?
