Morocco: Interactive Simulations

Environment   Sep 22, 2017 by Kherraz Ayman
  • How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

The simulations seems very relevant to me. They showed me how much my lifestyle is not suitable for a good environnement. For example the Water Footprint Calculator shocked me about how much water i'm using, I couldn't believe it and it made me fell guilty cause it's showed me how much damage I was causing without knowing.  And for the Ecological Footprint Calculator, it also helped me improve my lifestyle by showing me how much food , shelter , goods and services I'm over consuming and what to do for a positive change.

  • How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combating climate change?

The simulation showed me what do i need to change in my lifestyle and what do i need to keep, for example: using more renewable power and using less water. And by showing me those solutions, you know that you are also one of those who are destroying the environment. I think that it's a good thing to know because commit yourself on changing and saving the environment.

  • Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

These situation will help me tackle climate change by changing myself then by giving my example to the other and showing them that we are all damaging the environment and we think that we are not. These simulations helped me also by giving lot of precious informations about how to preserve our planet. And I've learn that by changing to environmental friendly lifestyle I won't only help the others but I'll also help myself and my planet.

Hi Kherraz,

I appreciate your self reflection. It can be hard to look at your own habits and realize you need to make a change. I think you make a great point about mentoring the behaviours we want to see in others. Often times, people are at a loss for how to make substantial change but if we see others doing so in their lives, it is easier to imagine doing so in ours. What are some concrete behaviours you hope to model for those in your life?
