United States: 1a Pre-Conference - Creating a Profile in the Virtual Classroom

My vision for a sustainable world is where everything is in balance. Factories could still emit CO2 as long as there are enough trees to produce the same amount of oxygen. In addition, there is a lot of reusing in the world. For example, in my world, second hand stores would be promoted so we would not need to make an excessive amount of products. Another practice I would like to use all over the world is glass recycling. In other parts of the world, if you finished using something made out of glass, for example, a coke bottle, you could take it to the recycling center, and the person will create it into a object you need for a small amount of money. This will help us reduce the amount of sand we are using, because right now, sand is a very scarce resource in our world.

Another vision for my sustainable world is where everyone is in harmony. People don't judge each other by race, ethnicity, or religon. Everyone is respected and feel comfortable with other ethnicities.

To make my vision a reality, we could make sure fewer factories and activities emit CO2 such as funeral practices, and that there are more plants in the world. To do this, we could support practices like Urban Death Project (https://www.ted.com/talks/katrina_spade_when_i_die_recompose_me). This would reduce 600 million pounds of carbon dioxide which are currently caused by cremation. Next, like I said earlier, we can promote reusing. Third, I think we should switch from using plastic milk bottles back to glass because glass is reusable. For example, people probably don't reuse plastic milk bottles. But with glass, people could refill their bottles because they feel like it's worth more. Or they could take it to a glass recycling center.

To make everyone not judge each other, we need to teach kids not to judge each other. Even though we all won't admit we judge other people, we probably do, and that's because our families judged other people in front of us. So schools and parents need to show children not to judge other people and not set standards for "regular" people.

Colonization has impacted our journey to a sustainable planet by creating factories. In order to colonize, you need homes and jobs. And some of these jobs include creating factories that emit tons of CO2 every year.

However, there are some pros to colonization. Because of our crisis, people have created practices like recycling and composting so that we don't create way too much waste.

Sarah,

Great details and ideas! What does judging people have to do with our project? Also, I would suggest adding more details to your last question. Nice responses!

Kyan

I like how you talk about balance. Balance is important because at the moment, eliminating our emission of CO2 completely is very difficult. You came up with an attainable goal that solves the problem.

I like that you included examples, sites, and good vocabulary. For example, emit.
