- A) What is your vision for a sustainable world?
My vision for a sustainable world is a sea of green. Lush plants that line the roads, and there are many parks and gardens. Everyone rarely uses automobiles unless traveling for long distances, and when we do, we use public transportation. Automobiles are cleaner than they are today. They are powered with greener sources of energy such as electricity and Biodiesel. Animals are healthy and the food chain is decently balanced because people are careful not to destroy animals’ habitats. No farmers use harmful insecticides anymore. Instead, they use essential oils like peppermint, cedar, and rosemary oils that emit an odor that bugs don’t like, and they leave the plants unharmed. We have solar panels on our houses and use other methods of generating renewable energy such as wind turbines and hydroelectric dams. Everyone also recycles and composts as much as possible, as well as pick up trash, so there is very little to zero waste on the streets and in the water.
- B) What are you planning to do to make this vision a reality?
I plan to recycle and compost as much as possible to help reduce waste, as well as pick up trash. I will walk and bike to places as much as I can, like to downtown and school, because they are only about 2 miles away, instead of using a car so I can help reduce carbon emissions. Another thing I will do is learn more about climate change so that I can better understand it and find out how else I can help. By doing this, I can also learn about and understand methods of generating clean energy.
- C) What impact has colonization had on our journey to a sustainable planet?
Colonization has both negative and positive impacts on climate change. One of the negative impacts is deforestation. When people settle in an area, they have to make room to settle, so they cut down trees. The more trees cut down, the more CO2 builds up in the atmosphere because there is too much for the plants to filter at a sustainable pace. Things like vehicles that burn fossil fuels add to the problem because they emit CO2. Also, because they’re so many today, it helps cause an unsustainable amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. But the good news is that colonization also has a large positive impact, and that is we are gradually becoming more energy efficient. We are building cars that run on electricity, which severely mitigates CO2 emissions. We are also using clean energy sources to power our homes and buildings, such as solar panels, wind turbines, hydroelectric dams, and more.

I love your idea of using peppermint, cedar, and rosemary oils instead of pesticides or insecticides. Also I would like to know how you will have other people help make this vision a reality.
Hayden,
Your response about colonization really made me think. The key details and explanation that you included were really well written and easy to follow. Also, the photo that you chose fits your vision really well and is very inspiring. Great job so far!
