LO- Navreet Toor- Water usage and scarcity

Environment   Oct 23, 2016 by Navreet Toor

Many people believe that the reason why there are water shortage problems is because of our daily domestic uses such as wasting water while leaving the tap on. Although this does contribute to our global water consumption, it only accounts for 8%. Agriculture is actually the biggest consumer of our global water and accounts for 70% of our consumption. The second goes towards industrial uses such as electricity and fossil fuels. It makes sense why agriculture takes up 70% since we grow all our food and the bigger the population the bigger the water consumption. Although many people think that taking shorter showers or turning the tap off while brushing your teeth will fix our water shortage problems, they will not since it is only 8% of our global consumption but these little things can make a difference. Really our biggest issue is the amount of water goes towards agriculture and industrial uses. If we don't start to fix this, eventually we will run out of fresh water since only 2.5% of the earth's water is fresh water. Humans, animals and plants all depend on water greatly since we all need it. If we run out of water our species we start to die since the human body can only survive a week without water in our bodies. Although the global water consumption uses are different in each country, we all need it and without we can't survive.
