Despite the United States being a democratic society, the majority of those who participated in the survey do not feel as though they have an influence in the government's response to climate change. We were not surprised by these results, because this survey was taken by individuals, whom may not have felt as empowered to make a change as if they had been in a group. We believe this because when people gather together in organizations, they have a better chance of being heard and making a difference. As individuals, only 7.8% of those surveyed felt as though they had an influence on our country's response to climate change, 32.8% were neutral on the topic, and 59.5% disagreed or strongly disagreed. As a society that labels itself as "for the people by the people", our citizens should have a larger impact on the government's stance on issues such as climate change. If the opinions of the common man do not matter, then what do we have?
