As a teenager in the 21st Century, I was brought up, by both my teachers and parents, knowing the devastating downfall of the planet earth. Yes, I knew what was happening and the ways on how us, humans, are responsible for all these, but what's next? I never really knew what to do when I'm left alone without all the test papers and environmental sheet asking what i would do to save our planet, without my flowering answers to such questions, when I'm left all alone, all these answers become empty. I wasn't fully firm with what I was advocating for since I was blinded by the advancement of technology and other things that continuously hinder me, each passing day, to living out my advocacy of saving the earth since I do not know when to start. I do not know how I, an individual, one human being, a teenage girl, could bring change and affect the whole outlook of the world towards climate change and global warming. The simulations that our group, the Advanced Environmental Education class, undertook helped me realize how relevant I was in our society, how relevant my action and decisions were in line with the environment's progression. It shook my world and made me in vision what we, our generation, could do to regenerate and make the earth bring back its beauty, in fact, bring its life back that was once taken away by our carelessness and lack of sensitivity towards the harmful effects of our actions, in account to it, in the long run.
The simulations that were presented made me realize the importance of each human being present today as to how every person could be part in combatting the negative ways that we had that hinder us from taking care of our environment and be one with the change. There would be no change in the situation of our environment if the human being do not change, nothing would happen if I do not start with myself as part of this community. The activities made my eyes open with all the potential that I had to initiate the change and stand up for what I believe in, which is to live out my life with God in the center and this would entail taking care of His wonderful creation that He bestowed upon us to take care of and not to put it into waste.
The reality of climate change should not merely be tackled through the means of talks about its continuous worsening especially for the youth because maybe yes, those talks and speeches could make an impact on them but for a span of what? 1-2 hours span of the talk? As part of the youth who are entirely engaged in saving the earth, I believe that the youth should start small scale by engaging in immersions and other projects by a community of environmentalist or the government in doing actual activities that are directly affecting the environment’s condition. Examples of such activities are tree planting and reusing used water to conserve and widen its use. I am privileged and grateful that our school has provided such activities for us students. We have a tree planting group in our school which provides a chance for the members of the group to revive forests and make plant new trees for the reduction of carbon in our atmosphere. Recently, the grade 11 student of our school built rain water catch systems to widen the use of the rain water to be used in different ways such as for planting the plants that are present in our community and for the cleaning of the school’s establishments. With all these, our school has enlightened the minds of us students, in taking part to the earth’s revival.
Water sustains at most, EVERYTHING here on earth. The earth is the only planet which has this kind of element. Three-quarters of the Earth's surface is covered with water, yet 98 percent is salt water and not fit for consumption. Less than one percent of all the water on Earth is freshwater available for human consumption. In a worldwide basis, 10 billion tons of fresh water are accumulated all over the world so this is technically 70 billion tons per week. Water comes from the oceans to the rivers which flows to the fresh water sources and eventually goes to the dams in our communities available for our consumption. Although this cycle is continuous, climates change affects it terribly. It directly affects the water vapor concentration, clouds, precipitation patterns, and stream flow patterns which interrupts the water cycle and the water consistency of the earth.
Water is a necessity on earth due to one reason: IT GIVES LIFE TO ALL LIVING THINGS ON EARTH. There are various reason to explain this and these are the following: First, it provides the entire world with oxygen and as we all know, oxygen is vital to us human beings and the animals. Plants are the ones directly sustained by water which is the biggest aspect in the production of the breathable air. Through a series of biochemical reactions, all plants divide the molecules of water which are two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. After which, the process of decomposition is followed which leads to the oxygenation of our atmosphere. Second, the weather is determined by the movement, quality and temperature of the water that is present in the ocean and the atmosphere which helps in the disaster prevention by the weather forecasts that are present today which detects incoming typhoons and other catastrophes. Third, it is the basis of agriculture since the farmers use water for providing nutrients for the crops to provide food for the country and other parts of the world if it exports. Fourth, for the fisheries because as much as the humans require drinking water, fish and other aquatic lifeforms also need clean water. Lastly, every living organism here on earth needs water for their sustainability so the conservation of such is known to be rampant. In summation, water is important for all life forms thus, we should all take part in its conservation for ours and the future generations.
